Nature's Voice
Nature sound recordist Martyn Stewart has just been honoured for his life’s work by receiving an OBE from King Charles. Earlier this year I had the honour of collaborating with Martyn and THE LISTENING PLANET on two new works based on my song for children, I Am the Earth.
One of these was a reworking of the song using Martyn’s wonderful recordings.
This is what Martyn had to say about receiving his OBE.
Though it bears my name, this award truly belongs to the planet I cherish.
Over the decades, I have experienced moments of indescribable wonder in nature, as well as the heartbreak of witnessing its decline. I have seen ecosystems dismantled, species vanish and the wild places I once knew transformed beyond recognition.
Yet, I still hold hope. It has been my lifelong calling to reconnect people with the fragile beauty of our natural world – a world too often overlooked, though it cries out for our care every day.
To those who have walked this path with me, and to every tireless advocate for conservation; this honor is as much yours as it is mine. You are the reason hope lives on.
Thank you, Martyn for your dedication to recording Nature’s voice all around this incredible planet; a legacy that will continue to inspire and encourage others now and into the future.
I wrote more about Martyn, his life’s work, and our collaborations in the post below.
